Kanczula Named SLC Player of the Week
Feb. 27, 2008
BEAUMONT - The Lamar University men's tennis player Filip Kanczula has been named the Southland Conference Player of the Week after a solid performance against Alcorn State last week. Kanczula went 1-0 at No. 1 singles and 1-0 at No. 1 doubles in the Cardinals only match last week. In singles play he took down Aziz Abdurazzakov of Alcorn State 6-2, 6-1. In doubles action, in which he and partner Maciej Bogusz were recently ranked No. 25 in the country, the Cardinals duo defeated Alcorn's Abdurazzakov and Shearron Hawkins 8-2. The Cardinal pair, who both call Wroclaw, Poland home, is 5-1 in doubles this spring with an upset victory over Tulsa's top team who were ranked fifth at the time of their match on Jan. 13. This is the highest ranking for a Lamar doubles tandem according to the ITA staff. This is the second time in his career that Kanczula has earned SLC player of the week honors. His first honor came when he was named player of the week on March 28, 2006 during his sophomore year.
