Men's Tennis Match Against Iowa Moved to Wednesday at 2 p.m.
March 17, 2008
BEAUMONT - After a tough road trip during spring break the Lamar University men's tennis team will look to get back on track when they host the Iowa Hawkeyes on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Cardinals Courts. The match with Iowa was originally scheduled to be played on Tuesday at 2 p.m., but the threat of bad weather pushed the match back a day. The Cardinals dropped three matches last week, falling at Troy on Sunday at Florida A&M on Monday and South Alabama on Wednesday. Lamar began the week with a 5-2 loss to Troy in Troy, Ala. The Cardinals got wins from Filip Kanczula who easily defeated Mario Silva 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and Diego Snyder who took down Guilherme Sahadi 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3. The doubles tandem of Kanczula and Maciej Bogusz also won, posting an 8-4 victory over Silva and Benjamin Chomette in the match at No. 1 doubles. In Monday's 6-1 loss at Florida A&M the Cardinals picked up their point in doubles play with wins at one and two. Kanczula and Bogusz beat Artiom Podgainii and Simbarashe Happy 8-3 at No. 1 while Snyder and Allan Gomes posted an 8-4 win over Forrest Jenkins and Michael Moore at No. 2. On Wednesday the Cards dropped a 5-2 decision to the Jaguars of South Alabama as Snyder posted a 6-4, 7-6 win over Robert Hodel at No. 3 and David Wanja was awarded a victory at No. 6 singles due to default. Lamar also won the match at No. 3 doubles due to a Jaguar default. With the three losses the Cards fall to 5-9 on the year. After their match against Iowa they will be in action again on Tuesday March 25 when they host another Big 10 opponent, Northwestern at the Cardinal Courts at 2 p.m.
