Lady Cards Host Sugar Bears Thursday at 7 p.m.

BEAUMONT - Looking to improve on their 3-0 start to Southland Conference play, the Lamar University women's basketball team returns to action on Thursday night, hosting the Sugar Bears of Central Arkansas at 7:00 at the Montagne Center.

The all time series between the two teams is tied 1-1, with Lamar winning in Beaumont last year and the Sugar Bears taking down LU in Conway, Ark. in their first ever meeting. The Lady Cards won the last meeting 81-78 on February 15, 2007.

The Lady Cardinals enter the game with a 10-6 overall record and a 3-0 record in Southland Conference play, on the heels of a 70-47 win over Sam Houston on Saturday afternoon in Huntsville, Texas.

Lamar is led in scoring by freshman Tamara Abalde, who is averaging team highs with 17.2 points per game along with 7.6 rebounds per game, while junior Nikki Williams is averaging 13.3 points per game and has a team-high 64 assists and 37 steals. Sophomore Brittney Williams is averaging 13.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game and senior Aida Bakhos is second on the team with 7.1 rebounds per game.

As a team the Lady Cardinals are shooting .393 from the field and are averaging 65.2 points per game while allowing 63.9 points per game. Lamar has controlled the boards this season, out rebounding their opponents 39.6 to 36.7.

UCA enters the game with a 2-15 season record and a 0-4 mark in SLC play, having lost their last 10 games. Their last loss came at the hands of Texas A&M Corpus Christi last Saturday in Conway, Ark.

The Sugar Bears are led by Meaghen Kellybrew's 9.5 points and 5.4 rebounds per game, while Laura Beth Anderson is averaging 9.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
 

 

As a team Central Arkansas is averaging 59.5 points per game, while allowing their opponents 80.3 points per contest. They are shooting .347 from the field, while their opponents are connecting on .438 of their shots.

After Thursday night's game against UCA the Lady Cardinals will be in action again when they host Northwestern State on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 at the Montagne Center.
