CONWAY, Ark. - The Lamar University women's tennis completed their weekend sweep of Southland Conference matches on Sunday morning with a 7-0 victory over the University of Central Arkansas Sugar Bears in Conway, Ark.

The Lady Cards improve to 20-2 on the year and 9-1 in SLC play with the win, while UCA drops to 2-15 overall and 0-11 in conference play with the loss. The 20 wins are the most for a Lamar women's tennis team since the 1984 team won 21 matches.

Lamar did not drop a single set during Sunday's contest as they cruised past the Sugar Bears.

In doubles play Andrea Martinez and Mariaryeni Gutierrez took down Petra Keilova and Rebecca McCullough 8-1at No. 1 doubles, Maria Gutierrez and Manijee Ashrafi downed Lisa Mainz and Rebecca Miller 8-4 at No. 2 while Salina Aranda and Kaltrina Harbuzi posted an 8-2 win over Jordan Short and Charissa Colclough at No. 3.

In singles play Martinez handled Rebecca Miller 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 while Mariaryeni Gutierrez coated past Heidi Miller 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 to improve to 22-0 on the year and 10-0 in SLC play. Kaltrina Harbuzi improved to 9-1 in conference action with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Mainz at No. 3, Maria Gutierrez took down Jordan Short 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 to improve to 8-2 in SLC play and Arand cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over McCullough at No. 5. Manami Kuroda rounded out the sixth singles victory for LU as she took out Lindsey Short 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6.
 

 

The Lady Cardinals will wrap up the regular season on Wednesday afternoon at the Cardinal Courts when they host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 2 p.m. Both the women and the men will be hosting the Islanders in their season finales.
