FAYETTEVILLE, AR- In his final event at the NCAA Indoor Track Championships, La Salle senior runner Sean Quigley (Braintree, MA/ Archbishop Williams) took seventh-place in the 3000m race on Saturday night in Arkansas.

"I made a few tactical mistakes in both races that may have cost me a few spots, but overall I'm happy to be one of the top guys,"  said Quigley.

Quigley stayed in the middle of the pack before breaking into the top eight about halfway through the 15 lap race.  With only two laps to go he had taken his seventh spot, and finished in 8:05.20.  Arizona State's Kyle Alcorn took the title in 8:00.82.

The top eight American finishers in each race garner All-American recognition.  2008 Indoor Track All-Americans will be announced on Sunday, March 16th.

Coming into the 3000m race Quigley had the fifth-fastest time in the country (7:52.47).  His best 3K time is currently just six seconds shy of the NCAA record- 7:46.03 set by Adam Goucher of Colorado on March 14th, 1998.

On Friday night the four-time All-American took third-place (13:54.05) in the 5K event at University of Arkansas- the top American finisher in the event.  The winner-Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Shadrack Songok was just three seconds faster, followed by Jacob Korir- both from Kenya

In the 5K Quigley led with just two laps to go but was passed in the final leg by two runners as he finished in the third position.  Entering the night he had the sixth best 5000m time (13:50.76) of any competitor at the NCAA Championships.  Last year he finished seventh in the 5K race.  He beat out 12 other runners for his top three finish.

The senior standout has had a stellar career at La Salle including being honored as the 2008 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track Championship 'Performer of the Meet' after taking the 5000m crown (13:52.66) and anchoring the winning distance medley relay team (10:12.42). His 5000m time at the A-10 Championships was a NCAA provisional qualifying time as well as a new record in the A-10 and at the University of Rhode Island's Mackal Field House.

Quigley broke La Salle's school-record in the 3000m event (7:52.47) at Boston University's Terrier Invitational, for his performance he was named both ECAC and

A-10 'Performer of the Week' for the second consecutive week.  He was named the ECAC 'Athlete of the Week' and A-10 'Performer of the Week' for his top finish in the mile (4:02.80) at the Gotham Cup, the second-fastest time in La Salle running history.

Next up for the senior is his outdoor track season.

"I'll be ready to go in outdoor and try to win a national championship," he said.
