Quigley Top American Finisher, Olympic Trials Qualifier in the 5K

Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational PHILADELPHIA, PA- Senior Sean Quigley qualified for the Olympic Trials in his second event (5K, 10K) after running a 19 second personal record at Mt. SAC in the 5K event in 13:30.25. He was the top American finisher, and fifth overall. The senior beat out NCAA XC Champion Josh McDougal and NCAA Indoor 5K Champion Shadrack Songkok en route to his speedy performance. The winner of the 5K event was Collis Birmingham.
After competing at Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational, six total Explorer runners qualified for the NCAA Regionals, IC4A's and ECAC's. NCAA Regionals will be held at Florida State on May 30-31st. IC4A'S AND ECAC's will be held May 16th-18th at Princeton. Senior Rachel Papin won the 5K event in 16:33 and teammate Carolyn Lipovsky ran a 4:26.45 1500m race to qualify for both the NCAA Regionals and ECAC's. Senior Christa Plummer qualified for ECAC's in the 1500m (10:52). For the men, Billy Rhea ran to third-place in the 800m (1:50.75) for a personal record and qualified for IC4A's. Korey Edwards ran a 3:47.03 1500m to qualify for the NCAA Regionals and IC4A's. Senior David Alfano also qualified for IC4A's with a 3:51.78 1500m race.
In the Steeplechase, Tom Ranalli ran to second in his heat in 9:21, while Trevon Rainford sprinted to 9:22.40 and James Holzwarth also came in at 9:22. Andrew Wagoner and Ed Baynes had solid 5K races, complete results and times to follow. On Saturday the Explorers will compete in the second day of competition at Widener.
