Sept. 29, 2009 PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University Baseball team, along with over seven thousand other participants, generated elation in the hearts of hundreds of young kids on Sunday by participating in the annual Parkway 5k Run and Walk. The event benefits The Cancer Center at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The Parkway Run has provided The Children's Hospital with over $1.8 million for researching new cures and for creating a better life for the increasing number of survivors. The La Salle University Baseball Team was able to partner with Project Team Work and "A Smile For Kyle," which was just one of the hundreds of children groups representing cancer patients. Kyle, age 5, was diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma, a very rare form of cancer at age two, and has been fighting the disease every since. Kyle's parents, Nicole and Jerry Gray, expressed their son's happiness with all the events of the day. A signed baseball presented to him by the team and was just one of the many fun things Kyle was a part of on this day. "I thought the event was truly inspiring and so did every member of the team," head baseball coach Mike Lake said. "When I approached the team with the opportunity they were all enthusiastic about it and the chance to give back to these true heroes."
