Darnell Harris and Jerrell Williams Named All-Atlantic 10; Mekongo Mbala is Academic All-Conference

Philadelphia, PA -- La Salle senior Darnell Harris (Baltimore, MD/St. Frances) has been named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference second team and teammate Jerrell Williams (Paterson, NJ/Northfield Mount Hermon) was selected to the All-Rookie team.  Sophomore Yves Mekongo Mbala (Elizabeth, NJ/St. Patrick's) was also selected to the Academic All-Conference team.

Harris, who set the Atlantic 10 all-time record for career three-point field goals on Saturday afternoon, led the Explorers with 16.4 points per game and finished the season as the Atlantic 10's ninth leading scorer.  He has connected on 335 career triples - long surpassing the La Salle record - and has been ranked top five nationally in three-pointers per game average and in the top ten nationally for three-point percentage all season.  He will finish his career 16th on the La Salle all-time scoring list.


 

 

Williams compiled averages of 9.4 points and 6.6 rebounds in his first season at La Salle and recorded seven double-doubles.   He was the team's leading rebounder and collected ten or more boards in eight games this season including a pair of 10-rebound performances in the final two games of the season.

Mekongo Mbala becomes La Salle's first Academic All-Atlantic 10 selection since Mike Gizzi earned to honors in 1995-96 and 1996-97 after averaging 7.9 points and 5.9 rebounds while starting every game and carrying a 3,82 grade point average as an Integrated Sciences Business Technology major.  He had three double-doubles on the season and five games with 10 or more rebounds.

The Explorers open Atlantic 10 Championship play with a first round game against Duquesne on Wednesday at 6:30 PM at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.
