![]() Shelly Szmyt's Blog Returns After A Brief Absence
Feb. 9, 2010
Hey ladies and gentlemen! Sorry that I have not posted anything in a while. With the start of school, I wanted to make sure that I was off to a good start! There were also some technical difficulties with my computer. This semester I am able to work study hall so I have plenty of time to entertain myself while I write the blog since, let’s face it- anyone who knows me well knows that I am not the first person to jump right into getting my homework done immediately after it is assigned! I am a procrastinator because I am basically a genius! Well, at least that is what I keep telling myself! Anyway, moving away from the academics, we have a lot to catch up on! The team has been in a slump, but we are staying positive and looking forward to scooping up some wins in A-10 play. We do have to win a few games to ensure that we are able to compete in the A-10 Tournament this year. We have recently traveled to Charlotte, George Washington, and Fordham. All were extremely close games, but I want to discuss some wild events that occurred outside the games. In Charlotte, we went out to dinner after we practiced the day before our game. Team meal that night was delicious, but some people had some leftovers. Most of us usually do not have leftovers because we indulge ourselves until we feel sick, but hey, some people like myself have an expanded stomach since college. It happens. What can I say? Anyways, our freshman point guard, Danielle Callahan (or DC as Coach Lochner gave her the first day of team workouts) decided that she was going to take her food back to the hotel and microwave it later in the evening. Most of us were confused because we were wondering where this magical microwave was that she was enthused about.
She was convinced that she had one in her closet in her room. This sounded pretty wild to us, but hey, DC is smart so we went along believing we all had microwaves in our closets. When we got back to the hotel I remember looking into the closet and searching for this mysterious microwave that the hotel hid in my closet. I was disappointed to find not only was there no microwave, but there was no bag to put my dirty clothes in from working out. That is the worst because then you have to mix your clean clothes with the dirties (as I call them). Anyways, I realized that DC thought that the safe that was located in the closet was a microwave!!! Haha. That still gets me! You have to feel bad for DC on that one! Love you girl! Although we were all cracking jokes on DC after that, I realized what a wonderful idea she had sparked in my mind. I am now working on an invention called “The Microwavable Safe”. This is not a safe that you can microwave, but more a microwave you can keep your food locked away from thieves while it microwaves! If you live with anyone like my Dad, you would understand why this is a necessity in your household! I will keep you updated on what happens with that. Moving right along! Our Assistant Director for Athletic Communications, Marc Mullen has two beautiful children, Jackson and Caitlyn. They are so adorable and since Marc travels with the team, sometimes we get the pleasure of one of the kids joining us for our journey! Jackson comes to some practices and dances to our practice music. He is very flirtatious and will one day break some girl’s heart for sure. These two children are not shy at all and his daughter will talk about just anything. At breakfast before our George Washington game, Caitlyn spilled the juice on her Dad’s dance moves! We were talking to her about how her brother loves to dance at our practices and then asked Caitlyn about what songs are her favorites that she likes to dance to. She replied, “I don’t really dance to the songs, but my dad does!” We all laughed so much, but unfortunately Marc was too shy to actually show us his skills on the dance floor. I am sure with enough pressure we can get him to dance before the end of the season. Well, we hope to see as many people as possible at our game on this Saturday, February 13, at 1 PM here at Tom Gola Arena!!!
