Stemper, Explorers Lose 3-1 to NC State

GREENSBORO, NC – Senior Rachel Stemper recorded her eighth double-double of the season on Friday against NC State, but the La Salle volleyball team could not capitalize down the stretch as they went on to lose to the Wolfpack, 3-1 (24-26, 25-18, 20-25, 22-25).

Stemper paced everyone in the contest with 22 kills in addition to becoming the third Explorer with double-digit digs, ending with 19. Freshman Lauren Noga, who was one dig shy of achieving the second double-double for La Salle, finished with nine kills and 17 digs.

After dropping the first set, 26-24, the Explorers evened the match with a 25-18 win in the second. Midway through the second set, freshman Breanna Mazalewski scored three consecutive points for the Explorers to give her team its largest lead in the set, 20-10. Mazalewski led La Salle with 20 digs.

Junior Carly Conlon set a team-high with 28 assists and sophomore Kourtney Clark, who punched in the winning point for the Explorers in the second set, finished with 17 assists and eight digs.

Senior Keri DeMar and sophomore Kelly Wood contributed two double-doubles for NC State with 15 kills and 13 digs and 11 kills and 22 digs, respectively. Junior Lindsay Benac led all participants with 29 digs and freshman Kelly Burns notched 45 assists and 10 digs.

The Explorers (2-13) return to action tomorrow for the final day of the UNC Greensboro Tournament as they face High Point at 10 AM and UNC Greensboro at 2:30 PM.
