LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Louisiana Tech will wrap up the 2008 baseball season with a four-game series against New Mexico State this weekend at Presley Askew Field. The teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 4:05 p.m. CDT on Friday, a single game at 7:05 p.m. Saturday and a 2:05 p.m. start on Sunday. Tech (21-29, 5-21 WAC) is looking to end its season on a high note after being eliminated from WAC Tournament contention earlier this month. New Mexico State (26-29, 13-15 WAC) will be making its first-ever WAC Tournament appearance next weekend in Ruston. The Bulldogs hold a 5-6 all-time mark against the Aggies, but pulled off a three-game sweep last season in Ruston. This marks only the second-ever visit by Tech to Las Cruces for a baseball trip. Tech enters the weekend fresh off a 15-5 victory against rival ULM on Tuesday but is still looking for its first road victory in conference play on the season. The Aggies, meanwhile, have gained a split in their last two conference series with Hawaii and Fresno State and swept Sacramento State three weeks ago. Senior righthander Alan Knotts (3-3, 4-80) will get the start for Tech in Friday's first game, where he will face NMSU ace Heath Goin (6-2, 5.96). Knotts has been Tech's most consistent starter over the last part of the season, putting together a pair of quality starts the last two conference series against Nevada and Hawaii. Dylan Moseley (1-5, 5.73) returns from his four-game suspension to make his final start of the season in Friday's second game against Aggie righthander Tyler Sturdevant (6-5, 5.40). On Saturday, it will be Jericho Jones (5-5, 5.57) getting the call against the Aggies' Sebastian Vendette (2-4, 7.58). Sunday's finale will pit Tech righthander John Anderson (1-0, 5.17) against Dillon Smith (2-5, 8.44), a junior righty for the Aggies. Three of the four games this weekend will be broadcast on ESPN 97.7 FM (www.espn977.com), beginning with the second game of Friday's doubleheader. Live stats, however, will be available for all four games by logging on to www.latechsports.com. |
