49ers Fall at Stanford

PALO ALTO--No. 2-ranked Stanford (16-3, 6-1 MPSF) used a five-goal second quarter to cruise by visiting Long Beach State (11-11, 3-5 MPSF) 15-7 on Saturday evening. Dayna Wawrzysnki had four goals in the loss, as the 49ers trailed just 3-2 after the first quarter before the Cardinal outscored The Beach 5-1 in the second period to lead 8-3. Stanford added five goals in the third period as well to lead 13-6. Kristen Stragier had nine saves in the net for the 49ers, who next play at San Jose State at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Rachelle Denaro had two goals and Kelsie Emerick had a single goal to round out the scoring for the 49ers. |
