INDIANAPOLIS - The Flyers recorded three NCAA B times and five victories in a dual meet at Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Indianapolis on Saturday afternoon. For the meet, the Indianapolis women defeated Lewis 140-83 while the men topped the Flyers 148-75. Freshman Kevin Coates was the first Flyer to win a race, stopping the clock at 9:35.34 for an NCAA B time in the men's 1000 yard freestyle. Freshman Deirdre Mikolajcik made it back-to-back Lewis victories, winning the next race with an NCAA B time of 1:56.66 in the women's 200 yard freestyle. Mikolajcik would also win the women's 100 yard backstroke, this time with a time of 1:01.08, missing another NCAA B time by less than a second. Sophomore Jason Ament notched an NCAA B time and a victory in the men's 500 yard freestyle, touching the wall at 4:42.10. Senior Stephanie White-Olson won the women's 100 yard breaststroke, finishing with a time of 1:08.50. Sophomore Bridget Bettenhausen finished behind White-Olson in the 100 yard breaststroke, touching the wall at 1:10.82. It was one of eight second place performance for Lewis. Bettenhausen also finished second in the women's 200 yard individual medley, registering a time of 2:16.39. White-Olson and freshman Ruth Bass came in third and fourth in the same race. Ament, junior Greg Marx and freshman Allan Sliva finished second, third and fourth in the men's 200 yard freestyle with times of 1:45.91, 1:47.88 and 1:49.43 respectively. Sophomore Adam Olszeski notched second place finishes in the men's 200 yard individual medley (1:59.53) and men's 100 yard backstroke (53.42). Senior Adam Brown (53.12) was less then four tenths behind the winner of the men's 100 yard butterfly. Freshman Stephanie Halcomb and sophomore Nicole Marano tied for second (55.82) in the women's 100 yard freestyle. In the men's race of the same event sophomore Aidan Murphy (49.99) and Marx (50.11) came in second and third. The men did the same in the 100 yard backstroke, with freshmen Luke Pavlakovich (1:02.08) and Arty Czarobski (1:02.29) taking second and third. The Flyers will be back at Indianapolis in two weeks when the Greyhounds host the GLIAC Championships from Feb. 13 to 16. |
