INDIANAPOLIS - Freshman Deirdre Mikolajcik and senior Stephanie White-Olson won championships on day three of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships. In total Lewis produced nine finalists and seven consolation finalists during the third day of competition on the campus of the University of Indianapolis. Mikolajcik headlined a strong Lewis showing in the women's 200 freestyle. Mikolajcik won the event with a 1:54.72 NCAA B time. It was Mikolajcik's second championship in two days, winning the 500 yard freestyle crown on Thursday. Freshman Allie Henges came in fifth with another NCAA B time of 1:56.19, missing fourth place by six hundredths of a second. Freshman Carrie Borgstede earned sixteenth place (2:01.69). White-Olson won the Flyers' fourth championship of the meet in the women's 100 yard breaststroke with an NCAA B time of 1:06.34. In the men's 100 yard breaststroke freshmen Tom Fitzgerald (1:00.21) took sixth and Luke Pavlakovich took seventh (1:00.66). Pavlakovich's time of 59.87 in the preliminaries set a new school record. Fellow freshman Arty Czarobski earned an eleventh place performance with a 1:01.42 time. Sophomore Aidan Murphy was thirteenth (1:01.48). Sophomore Adam Olszeski registered the Flyers' fourth NCAA B time of the day with his fifth place performance of 52.59 in the men's 100 yard backstroke. Sophomore Ryan Harrison was three spots behind in eighth place (53.71). In the women's 100 yard backstroke freshman Kayla Muir notched a fourth place finish of 1:01.27. The Flyers placed two in the top twelve in both the men's and women's 400 yard individual medley. Freshman Ruth Bass earned a sixth place finish (4:43.42). Sophomore Bridget Bettenhausen was twelfth (4:49.99). For the men sophomore Aaron Olszeski came in tenth (4:18.60) and freshman A.J. Gebhardt followed in eleventh (4:20.11). The men's 200 yard freestyle saw Jason Ament take eleventh (1:44.82) and freshman Allan Sliva grab thirteenth (1:45.40). In the 800 yard freestyle relay both the men and women finished fifth. Mikolajcik, Henges, freshman Stephanie Halcomb and freshman Carrie Borgstede finished in 8:00.09. Sophomore Jared Zimmer, Ament, Adam Olszeski and Sliva stopped the clock at 7:03.75. The men have 307 points and hold down the fifth spot, five points behind fourth place Ashland. The women are also in fifth, 29 points behind Ashland. Lewis concludes the GLIAC Championships on Saturday with the 1000 yard freestyle, 200 yard backstroke, 100 yard freestyle, 200 yard breaststroke, 200 yard butterfly and the 400 yard freestyle relay. |
