Four More Champions Cap League Meet

Results

INDIANAPOLIS - Four Flyers won Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships during the final day of the GLIAC Championships on the campus of the University of Indianapolis. Lewis finishes the tournament with eight individual crowns and four NCAA A times.

Freshman Deirdre Mikolajcik won her third championship of the meet with an NCAA A and school record time of 2:05.89 in the women's 200 backstroke. Freshman Kayla Muir took second, stopping the clock at 2:11.52.

Senior Adam Brown notched an NCAA A time and broke his own school record with a 1:51.83 swim in the preliminaries and NCAA B 1:53.54 in the finals to win the men's 200 butterfly.

Freshman Kevin Coates shattered both the GLIAC Championships and school record by more than four seconds in the men's 1000 freestyle with an NCAA B performance of 9:22.93. Sophomores Jason Ament (9:34.35) and Jared Zimmer (9:37.69) took third and fifth respectively with NCAA B cuts.

Senior Stephanie White-Olson won her second championship in two days by securing an NCAA B time of 2:25.62 in the women's 200 breaststroke. Sophomore Bridget Bettenhausen took home sixth (2:30.63).

Freshman Allie Henges missed an NCAA B time by one hundredth of a second, finishing in fifth place in the women's 200 butterfly. Freshman Ruth Bass (2:16.08) was eleventh.

The men's 200 backstroke saw Adam Olszeski take third place in an NCAA B swim of 1:54.71. Sophomore Ryan Harrison came in eighth (1:57.90). Freshman Allan Sliva (47.85) and junior Greg Marx (48.24) took twelfth and fifteenth in the men's 100 freestyle. In the men's 200 yard breaststroke, four Flyers finished in the top 16. Sophomore Aidan Murphy took eight (2:13.71), freshman Arty Czarobski was ninth (2:11.50), freshman Tom Fitzgerald was eleventh (2:12.42) and freshman Luke Pavlakovich finished sixteenth (2:20.13).

In the relays, the team of Muir, Mikolajcik, sophomore Nicole Marano and freshman Stephanie Halcomb was seventh (3:45.85) in the 400 freestyle relay. The men's squad of freshman Evan Childers, Zimmer, Ament and Marx were also seventh (3:16.39).

Both the men and women's teams improved on last seasons' performance. The men finished in fourth place with 465 points, up from their fifth last year. The women finished in the fifth spot with 356 points, besting their seventh place finish last year and improving their point total by 80.5 points.

At the conclusion of the meet, Deirdre Mikolajcik was named GLIAC Female Freshman Swimmer of the Year, and Kevin Coates was named GLIAC Male Freshman Swimmer of the Year.

Coates, Mikolajcik, Brown and Zimmer will compete at the 2008 NCAA Division II Swimming Championships in Columbia, Missouri at the Mizzou Aquatic Center on Mar. 12-15.
