ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lewis University sophomore Jason Ament has been named the CollegeSwimming.com NCAA Division II National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week for his performance at Indianapolis on Saturday. Ament notched an NCAA B time of 4:42.10 in a men's 500 yard freestyle victory. He finished second in the men's 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:45.91. Ament is the second Flyer to be named National Player of the Week this season and the third Lewis swimmer in the 11-year history of the program to receive the honor. Sophomore Jared Zimmer won the accolade on Dec. 5, 2007 after he notched NCAA A and B times in victories at the 2007 TYR/CollegeSwimming.com Classic. Last season Michael Lapustin became the first Flyer to receive national honors after recording three victories in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Feb. 21-24, 2007. Earlier this week Ament became the fourth Lewis swimmer this season to be named a GLIAC Swimming Athlete of the Week. The Flyers will compete at the GLIAC Championships from Feb. 13 to 16. |
