ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University men's and women's track and field teams secured two NCAA Division II provisionals and combined for nine wins among more than 35 top-five finishes at the Dick Pond Invitational, held Saturday at the Lewis Fieldhouse. Senior Terran Wertz and sophomore Scott Barnas claimed the two NCAA provisional marks. Wertz bettered her previous NCAA provisional in the 800, winning the event in 2:16.74, while Barnas qualified for a third time this season in the shot put. His first-place toss went 53-1. Barnas also took third in the weight throw (50-9 ½). Event winners for the women also included sophomore Ashley Butler, first in the long jump (17-9); and freshman Samantha Linck, first in the high jump (5-3 ¾). Butler also took fifth in the 55 (7.49). Other top-five finishes were turned in by senior Erin Mitchell, second in the pole vault (10-4 ¼); freshman Maggie Boban, third in the 400 (1:02.13) and third in the 200 (27.18); junior Millennium Wheeler, third in the triple jump (35-8 ¾); freshman Kathryn Hague, third in the mile (5:21.19) and fifth in the 3000 (10:47.41); freshman Kelsey Boland, fourth in the triple jump (32-3 ¾); sophomore Christine Kustra, fourth in the 55-meter hurdles (8.91); junior Rachel Quintana, fourth in the shot put (36-9); and senior Katie Barney, fifth in the long jump (16-5 ¾). The women's top relay teams took first in both the 4x200 (1:46.30) and the 4x400 (4:10.00). Along with Barnas' win on the shot put, the men also received event victories from senior Brian Pedersen in the 400 (50.81) and sophomore Austin Bailey in the 55 (6.64). Other top-five performances for the men were senior Emory Burdette, second in the 800 (2:00.47); freshman Chris Leibrand, third in the 400 (51.56); sophomore Donnie Lesnick, third in the 200 (23.55); freshman Matt Schultz, third in the pole vault (14-9); sophomore Randy Hinton, fourth in the 55 (6.68); freshman Adam Zaremba, fourth in the 800 (2:01.83) and the 55-meter hurdles (8.39); sophomore Robert Robinson, fifth in the 200 (23.79); and sophomore Chris Gorman, fifth in the high jump (5-11). The men's top relay teams took first in the 4x200 (1:32.36) and third in the 4x400 (3:28.06). In other action, senior Adrian Myers and freshman Andy Lepkowski each secured NCAA provisional qualifying marks in the mile at the Frank Sevigne Invitational at the University of Nebraska. Myers came in sixth place (4:13.55), while Lepkowski finished eighth (4:13.85). Lewis returns to action next weekend for the Chicagoland Indoor Championships. The women's portion will be held at Lewis on Friday evening. The men compete at University of Chicago on Saturday. |
