CHICAGO, Ill. - The Lewis University men's track and field placed second among 18 teams at Saturday's Chicagoland Indoor Championships at the Henry Crown Fieldhouse. Lewis student athletes won two events and placed in the top top in 18 others. Lewis' first-place finishes came from sophomore James Knaperek in the 55-meter hurdles (8.11) and senior Adrian Myers in the 800 (1:56.86). Other scoring performances in the track events came from sophomore Randy Hinton, second in the 200 (22.75) and third in the 55 (6.64); freshman Chris Leibrand, fourth in the 400 (51.41); senior Andrew Northrup, fourth in the 3000 (8:50.96); sophomore Austin Bailey, fifth in the 55 (6.67) and sixth in the 200 (23.10); freshman Adam Zaremba, fifth in the 55-meter hurdles (8.33); senior Brian Pedersen, fifth in the 400 (51.50); senior Sinan Khamo, sixth in the 5000 (15:38.41); and freshman Andy Lepkowski, seventh in both the mile (4:23.10) and 3000 (9:10.53). The men's 4x400 relay team placed third (3:27.38), and the distance medley relay team took sixth (11:10.29). Field events saw sophomore Scott Barnas finish third in the shot put (14.93 meters) and sixth in the weight throw (15.15 meters). Freshman Matt Schultz placed fourth in the pole vault (4.55 meters), and sophomore Chris Gorman was sixth in the high jump (1.81 meters). Lewis finished behind North Central (215 points) and ahead of University of Chicago (88 points) and Carthage (52 points) in the team standings. The Flyers resume action next Friday, hosting the Dick Pond Open. |
