NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Sophomore Christine Kustra won the women's heptathlon with a NCAA provisional score at the Chicagoland Outdoor Championships, held Thursday through Saturday at North Central. The Flyer women placed fifth among 22 teams, while the men were second among 20 teams. Kustra was one of three Flyers to record a provisional mark at the meet, amassing 4,459 points in the heptathlon. She also placed fourth in the triple jump (37-1 ¾). Sophomore Ashley Butler notched a provisional in the long jump. She finished second overall with a leap of 18-4 1/2. Butler also scored for Lewis with a fifth-place showing in the 100 meter dash (12.59). Senior Terran Wertz secured the other provisional by running to fifth in the 800 meters (2:18.32). Wertz also placed fourth in the 1,500 meters (4:41.85). Other scoring performances for the women came from freshman Maggie Boban in the 200 meters (sixth, 25.87) and 400 meters (sixth, 59.48), senior Sarah King in the pole vault (seventh, 10-0) and the 200 meters (eighth, 25.91), freshman Kathryn Hague in the 5,000 meters (third, 18:23.02), junior Millennium Wheeler in the triple jump (sixth, 35-9 ¼) and the long jump (sixth, 17-0), and senior Cassidy Domagalla in the hammer throw (eighth, 134-9). The women's 4x100 relay team scored with a fourth-place finish (49.23), while the 4x400 squad finished ninth (12.59). The men were led to second place as a team behind 20 individual scoring performances including four wins and 13 other top-five finishes. The Flyers received event wins from sophomore Randy Hinton in the 200-meter dash (21.85), senior Andrew Northrup in the 10,000 meters (31:30.82), sophomore James Knaperek in the 110-meter hurdles (15.42), and sophomore Scott Barnas in the shot put (52-0). The men's 4x100 relay team also placed first (42.09). Hinton also scored for the Flyers in 100-meter dash (third, 11.11) and the 400-meter dash (49.39). Other scorers for the men in the track events included senior Geoff Rozovics in the 100-meter dash (second, 11.09) and the 200-meter dash (fourth, 22.16), sophomore Austin Bailey in the 100-meter dash (seventh, 11.28), freshman Chris Leibrand in the 400-meter dash (50.42), senior Sinan Khamo in the 10,000 meters (fifth, 32:03.45), and freshman Adam Zaremba in the 110-meter hurdles (fifth, 15.85) and the 400-meter hurdles (fourth, 56.43). Scorers for the men in the field events included sophomore Chris Gorman in the high jump (third, 6-0), senior Jeff Zoellick in the pole vault (fourth, 14-6 ¾), freshman Matt Schultz in the pole vault (eighth, 13-7), senior Dan Probst in the shot put (fourth, 49-3 ½), discus (second, 156-5) and hammer throw (fourth, 158-4), and senior Brian Pedersen in the javelin throw (second, 168-7). The Flyers return to action on April 10 at Emporia State. |
