March 6, 2008 PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Senior Bryan Druktenis' three-run home run in the first inning got the Lewis offense going early as the Flyers defeated Worcester Polytechnic Institute 9-3 on Thursday afternoon. Druktenis' homer highlighted a five-run first inning for the Flyers (3-4). Freshman Mike Vucsko and senior Billy Duffy scored on Druktenis' home run. Junior Ryan Reynolds and sophomore Michael Fedoruk each singled to knock in a run in the first. The WPI Engineers scored all three of their runs in the second. Lewis added to their lead in the sixth when sophomore Ryan McManaman scored on a Vucsko single. Lewis scored three runs in the seventh. The first two came on a single by Reynolds that scored Druktenis and junior Chris McCall. McManaman scored on a Fedoruk sacrifice fly for the Flyers' final run. Druktenis finished 4-of-4 with the home run, a double and two runs scored. McManaman was 3-for-3, all singles, with three runs scored. He also swiped two bases on two attempts. Reynolds finished 2-for-3 with three RBI. McCall was 2-of-4 with two runs scored. Senior Jon Guzzo (1-1) evened his record with a seven inning outing. Guzzo allowed one earned run, three hits, a walk and struck out five. Senior Ryan Duran came in for Guzzo and pitched two innings of shutout ball. He fanned three while allowing a hit and a walk. The Flyers game against Rockhurst on Friday has been canceled. Lewis will be on the field again on Wednesday when the Flyers play at Quincy in a non-conference double-header. |
