Game One Box Score
Game Two Box Score

RENSSELAER, Ind. - Junior Chris McCall got the Flyers going early with a three-run first inning home run in game one, but the Flyers fell 7-6 (10 innings) and 9-0 to No. 17 Saint Joseph's Saturday afternoon in a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader.

The Pumas tied the opening game with three runs in the bottom of the second.

The Flyers took the lead back in the third when senior Bryan Druktenis supplied a two-out RBI base hit to score freshman Mike Vucsko from second who led the inning off with a single.

The Pumas scored three in the third, including two on a home run by Matt Reimer.

In the fourth the Flyers made it 6-5 with a two-out RBI by Vucsko to score freshman Richard Forkin who was hit by the pitch to start the inning.

With two outs in the seventh and runners on first and second, McCall reached on an error. Sophomore Ryan McManaman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force Vucsko in and tie the game. With the bases still loaded, Forkin grounded out to the second baseman.

In the top of the ninth Lewis had Druktenis on second with one out, but McCall and McManaman stuckout to end the Lewis' ninth.

The Pumas failed to threaten in the bottom of the ninth as did the Flyers in the top of the tenth. But in the bottom of the tenth Scott Sieder hit a sacrifice fly to score Matt Willie to win the game.

Clay Tingley (2-0) earned the victory for Saint Joseph's. Freshman Charles Gille (1-2) who pitched the final 2.2 innings took the loss, but pitched well walking only one.

Senior Jon Guzzo took a non-decision, allowing eight hits, six earned runs and a walk while striking out four in 7.0 innings.

Game two was all Saint Joseph's. The Pumas scored two in the first and second innings while plating three in the fourth. They also added one in the third and sixth. Mike Pericht had a three-run home run in the fourth for the Pumas.

The Flyers could never get their offense on track with Druktenis and junior Ryan Reynolds registering the Flyers' only hits of the game. Senior Ryan Duran (0-2) took the loss, allowing three earned runs in three innings. Junior Chris Brigham surrendered four earned runs in three innings.

The Flyers fall to 7-8 (2-4 GLVC) while Saint Joseph's improves to 21-4 (9-1 GLVC). The same two squads will tangle tomorrow in another doubleheader.
