Junior Brandon Dagans

Dagans' Monster Effort Not Enough

Feb. 21, 2008

Box Score

INDIANAPOLIS - An unstoppable Brandon Dagans led all scorers with a career-best 42 points, scoring 22 in overtime, but the Flyers fell to Indianapolis 113-109, in triple overtime Thursday evening in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

The Flyers (18-6, 11-5) trailed Indianapolis by seven with 3:25 to play in regulation but rallied for an 8-1 run to tie the game. Dagans hit a pair of free throws with nine seconds left to tie the score.

The game went back and forth in the first overtime. Indy led by two with 2:11 to play, but then Dagans drove to the hoop, drew double coverage and dished to senior Stephan Bolt at the last second for a dunk to tie the game 89-89. Neither team scored for the final 1:51 of the first overtime.

A one-handed slam by DeAndre Brock with 1:32 to go in the second overtime put Indy up by six points, seemingly enough for the win, but Dagans wasn't done.

He hit a three with 1:12 to go and followed that with a layup after a missed jumper by Indy. Down one, the Flyers sent Indy to the line with 20 seconds to go, and the Greyhounds could only hit one of two. Junior Jason Genova was there for the board after the miss on the second shot, and he passed to Dagans who immediately drove in for another layup to tie the game for an 11th time.

The Greyhounds took control in the third overtime, hitting their first shot and never trailing the rest of the way. They led by seven with 18 seconds to play. Dagans made it interesting one more time, adding two more free throws and another trey during the final 18 ticks, but it was too little too late, and the Greyhounds hung on for the win.

Dagans finished 14-for-29, hitting 4-for-9 from 3-point range and 10-for-11 at the line. He scored 22 of Lewis' 32 overtime points and became the 34th member of Lewis' 1,000-point career scoring club.

Bolt added 19 points and 18 boards. Genova scored 28, connecting on 4-of-9 from long distance.

Brock led Indy with 31 points, nailing 6-for-10 from 3-point range. The Greyhounds connected on 18-for-36 from downtown. Lewis was 10-for-28 from 3-point territory.

The Flyers face Saint Joseph's on Saturday at 3 pm.
