ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Three Flyers finished with double-digit kills to help Lewis defeat the St. Ambrose Fighting Bees 3-1 (26-30, 30-21, 30-24, 30-25) Sunday evening in a non-conference match at Neil Carey Arena.

Dayton also had 10 digs, two assisted blocks and a solo. Kelnhofer added seven digs, an assisted block and a solo. Junior Billy Sahagian hit .438 and had nine kills. Sophomore Mike Iandolo recorded 49 assists, eight kills, six digs, three aces and a solo block.

The Fighting Bees took the opening game by out-hitting the Flyers .226 to .068. Lewis rallied to get within two multiple times but could get no closer after St. Ambrose took a 15-8 lead.

Game two was an 180 degree turn for Lewis as they grabbed a quick 12-4 lead. Kelnhofer had six kills and Dayton five in the nine-point victory.

The only moment the Flyers trailed in game three was after St. Ambrose scored the first point of the game. After that it was all Lewis. A kill and then an ace serve by Iandolo gave the Flyers a 14-8 advantage. A Pickering kill and then a Dayton kill gave the Flyers their 29th and 30th points to take a 2-1 advantage.

In game four St. Ambrose came alive, taking an early five-point advantage at 8-3. Lewis chipped away at the lead and eventually took a 17-15 advantage with a 7-1 run. Pickering had two aces during the span. The Fighting Bees tied it at 17, 18 and 19 but never regained the lead. Lewis finished the Fighting Bees off with a 4-0 run.

St. Ambrose fell to 6-5 while the Flyers improved to 6-4. Lewis hosts conference rival IPFW on Friday at 7 p.m.
