Senior Jared Dayton

Flyers Dominate Over Quincy

April 4, 2008

Box Score

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Senior Jared Dayton notched 11 kills to lead the No. 15 Flyers over Quincy 30-20, 30-22, 30-27 Friday night in a Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association match. The match was tied five times but the Flyers never trailed.

Junior Billy Sahagian added nine kills, four block assists and three service aces. Junior Drew Pickering had seven kills, six digs and two block assists. Sophomore setter Mike Iandolo recorded 40 assists, six digs and three block assists.

With game one tied at four, the Flyers went on a 9-2 run to grab the momentum. Dayton had six kills in the opening game victory.

The Flyers took game two by eight points, thanks in part to ten service errors by Quincy in the game. Quincy had a stretch of five straight service errors to help push the Flyers to an early 15-9 lead.

A 5-1 run in game three gave the Flyers a 11-7 advantage. After the Flyers reached match point at 29-25 on a block by junior David Kelnhofer and senior David Kyner, the Hawks scored the next two points to make loyal Lewis followers a bit nervous. But a kill by Kelnhofer finished on the next point finished the Hawks off. Kelnhofer had six kills, all in game three.

The victory puts the Flyers at 19-7 (6-3 MIVA) on the year. A win over conference rival IPFW on Saturday night would give the Flyers their 20th of the season. The Flyers already have the most victories in the Dan Friend era. Friend's previous high with Lewis was 17. Quincy falls to 18-23 (1-10 MIVA).
