ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lewis University outside hitter junior Drew Pickering (Wauwatosa, Wis./ Wauwatosa West H.S.) has been named the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Player of the Week. Pickering earned All-Tournament honors at the Lewis Invitational in wins over UC San Diego and Cal Baptist. In the Flyers' 3-1 win over UC San Diego Pickering posted his second double-double of the season with 13 kills and 11 digs. He hit .480 with one error in 25 attempts. He also added six block assists and two assists. In the Flyers' sweep of Cal Baptist, Pickering tallied nine kills while hitting .438. He added four aces, two digs and two block assists. Offensively Pickering averaged 4.29 points and 3.14 kills per game while hitting .463. Defensively Pickering averaged 1.86 digs and 1.14 blocks per game. This is the second MIVA Player of the Week award in Pickering's career. He is the first Flyer to be honored with a weekly accolade since senior Jared Dayton was named MIVA Player of the Week on March 20 of last season. The Flyers, who have won six of their last seven matches, play tonight at Carthage and return home on Friday night to face Juniata at 7 p.m. |
