ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lewis University freshman Brian Muesenfechter has been selected to the 2008 Men's USA Volleyball Junior National Training Team. The 2008 U.S. Men's Junior National Training Team (players born in 1989 or '90) will practice at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., beginning in mid-June. The team will be cut to a final squad of 12 athletes, who will compete in the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation Under-21 Continental Championship, scheduled for June 30-July 5 in El Salvador. The NORCECA championship is a qualifier for the 2009 FIVB Men's Junior World Championship. The U.S. Men's Junior National Team has qualified for the last two world championships. Muesenfechter was a USA Youth National Team A2 selection. In his first year at Lewis, Muesenfechter played in 28 matches with 14 starts. He had 22 kills at Loyola, recorded a double-double in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Tournament Semifinals and had 12 kills in the Flyers' victory at USC on March 5. Lewis head coach Dan Friend will serve as an assistant on the team. The team will be coached by Shawn Patchell, head coach of the BYU men's volleyball team. |
