Junior Jenna Mooberry scored in double-digits for the second straight game.

Mooberry's Double-Double Not Enough To Trip Knights

Feb. 28, 2008

Box Score

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Junior Jenna Mooberry notched a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, but Lewis fell 79-66 to Bellarmine Thursday evening in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game. Despite the loss, if the Flyers defeat Northern Kentucky on Saturday they will secure a bid in the GLVC Tournament.

Lewis grabbed an early lead thanks to a 3-pointer by Mooberry that put the Flyers up 6-2. Bellarmine tied it at 13 but freshman Kady Currin knocked in a trey to give the lead back to the Flyers. Lewis was down by one at 23-22 when the Knights went on a 10-0 run and take an 11-point lead on a layup by Dana Beaven with 4:13 remaining. With 55 seconds left Currin dribbled baseline and converted on a reverse layup to get the deficit inside double-digits at nine points. Junior Kelly Dianis then hit a 12-foot jumper to get the Flyers within seven at halftime.

Highlighted by seven quick Dianis points, Lewis opened the second half with a 9-2 run to tie it up at 41. After a push by the Knights, Mooberry hit a 3-pointer to get the Flyers within one at 47-46 with 13:48 left. Unfortunately for the Flyers, the Knights then went on a 13-0 lead and never looked back.

In addition to her double-double Mooberry also recorded three steals. Dianis had 13 points. Freshman Jenny Turpel finished with 10 points, seven in the second half. Currin scored 11, making three of five 3-pointers. The Knights out-shot (50.8 percent to 39.1 percent) and out-rebounded (44 to 33) the Flyers. Bellarmine's Dana Beaven led all scorers with 16. She also added nine rebounds. Ashley Lewallen scored 10 points and grabbed 10 boards.

The Flyers fall to 13-12 (9-9 GLVC) while the Knights improve to 20-9 (12-6 GLVC).

The Flyers host Northern Kentucky on Saturday at 1 p.m. A victory over Northern Kentucky or a loss by Southern Illinois Edwardsville earns Lewis a berth in the GLVC Tournament.
