KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Junior Kelly Dianis collected two RBI to help Lewis to a 3-2 win over University of Mary, Tuesday afternoon at the Rebel Spring Games. The Flyers later dropped a 1-0 decision to Saginaw Valley State. Against Mary, the Flyers plated two runs in the first inning. Freshman Kayla Smith led off with a double down the right field line and later scored on a single by senior Carla Musillo. Dianis hit into a fielder's choice later in the frame to score Musillo. Mary tied the game with a two-run fourth, taking advantage of a lead-off walk and hitting two run-scoring doubles. The game remained tied until the Lewis sixth when the Flyers were able to scratch across the go-ahead run. Musillo walked to start the inning and ended up on third following a sacrifice bunt and a Mary error. Dianis was able to get Musillo home when she hit into a fielder's choice. Freshman Diana Pickrum (1-0) collected the win, in relief, after holding Mary hitless for the final three innings. Junior Courtney Lyons (4-3) was the hard-luck loser for the Flyers against Saginaw Valley State. She was making a bid for a third straight shutout, but fell short in the seventh after a lead-off walk came around to score with two out due to a Flyers' fielding error. |
