Game Two Box Score

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Senior Carla Musillo's two-out RBI double in the bottom of the fifth inning proved to be the game-winner for the No. 7 Flyers in a 5-1 victory over Rockhurst in game one of a conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at the Lewis softball field. The Flyers fell 3-1 in a nine-inning affair in the second game.

Lewis (35-13, 19-3) clinched the top seed for the upcoming Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship Tournament with their game-one win. The GLVC Tournament begins next Thursday in Peoria, Ill.

Lewis scored first in game one, getting a run on a sacrifice fly by junior Courtney Lyons in the second inning. Rockhurst tied the game in the third by scoring from third on a wild pitch.

Musillo's run-scoring double in the fifth was the first of three runs in the inning. Junior Kelly Dianis collected two RBIs with a single to left field following Musillo's at-bat.

Lewis added one more run in the sixth, when senior Ashley LeGrand brought home junior Lisa Gartland from third on a fielder's choice. Gartland initially reached on an error, stole second, and then went to third on a sacrifice bunt by Lyons.

Lyons (19-4) earned the win in the circle by throwing her 18th complete game of the season. She allowed just two hits while striking out six.

The Flyers scored first in game, getting a RBI double from Dianis in the first inning, but Rockhurst tied the game the very next inning.

The contest remained knotted 1-1 until Rockhurst broke through for two runs on two hits in the top of the ninth. A two-out walk followed by a double gave the Hawks runners on second and third. Pinch-hitter Leslie Furdek then ripped a single into center to score both runners.

Lewis starter freshman Diana Pickrum went seven innings, allowing six hits and one run. Junior Julie Wingerter (5-3) took the loss after pitching the final two innings in relief.

The Flyers conclude regular-season play on Sunday, hosting Drury in a doubleheader at Noon.
