Simpkins recorded two hits and an RBI on Tuesday

Bisons defeated 8-6 at Austin Peay

March 11, 2008

Final Stats

The Bisons scored in five of the nine innings on Tuesday, but it was not enough as they were defeated 8-6 by Austin Peay.

After Austin Peay jumped out to an early 1-0 first inning lead, the Bisons responded with a run of their own on a Shane Simpkins RBI single.

However, Austin Peay broke through against Bisons starter, Mike Zenko, plating four runs in the second to drive Zenko from the game, and take a commanding 5-1 lead.

The Bisons got two of the runs back in the third, using an RBI double by Blake Bratcher and an RBI single by Ryan Wilkins to pull within two.

The following inning, Jorge Gutierrez, pulled the Bisons one run closer, using a sacrifice fly to bring the score to 5-4.

Unfortunately, Austin Peay's offense wasn't done, scoring two runs against Bisons' reliever, Jordan Baron, in the fourth and another in the fifth.

The Bisons got one run back in the sixth when Ben Williams scored on a balk, and added another in the ninth on an RBI groundout by Bratcher to bring the score to 8-6, but it was too little too late.

Zenko received the loss to drop his record to 0-1. Four Bisons had multiple hits in the game, with Joseph, Bratcher, Sanders, and Simpkins recording two each. The Bisons actually outhit Austin Peay 12 to 9.

The Bisons will return to action tomorrow, when they travel to Indiana, to take on Evansville at 5 p.m. Right-hander Dylan Ray is expected to take the mound for the Bisons, in his first start of the season.
