Final Stats

The Bisons baseball team opened up its three-game Atlantic Sun series at Stetson University with a 4-1 win Friday night at Melching Field in DeLand, Fla.

The Bisons spotted Stetson a one-run lead in the second inning.

But in the fifth the Bisons tied the game 1-1. With two outs shortstop Jorge Gutierrez singled to left field. Center fielder Allen Bolden singled to the shortstop. Catcher Caleb Joseph singled to left field to score Gutierrez.

In the ninth the Bisons sealed the game with three runs. Right fielder Shane Simpkins opened with a double down the right field line. He ran to third as the ball got past the right fielder.

Stetson changed pitchers. With one out both Branden Cadavid and Ben Williams walked. Gutierrez reached base on a fielder's choice, scoring Simpkins from third. Williams was out at second.

With two outs Bolden doubled down the right field line to score Gutierrez and Cadavid.

Rex Brothers started for the Bisons and pitched four innings. He gave up one run and one hit and struck out five. Kyle Tognazzini shut down Stetson for the final five innings to get the win, giving up two hits and striking out seven.

Gutierrex, Bolden, Joseph and Simpkins each had two hits for the Bisons who finished with nine hits for the game.
