Simpkins contributed an RBI on Friday

Offense quiet in 6-2 loss at Winthrop

May 2, 2008

Final Stats

The Bisons got on the board first, but their offense remained mostly silent on Friday as they were defeated by Winthrop 6-2.

Jorge Gutierrez got the Bisons going, singling to center to lead off the game before ultimately scoring after Caleb Joseph grounded into a double play.

Winthrop finally got to Bisons' starter, Rex Brothers, in the third, plating four runs to take a 4-1 lead. They added to the score with another run in the fourth.

The Bisons pulled a little closer in the seventh, after Shane Simpkins drove in Blake Bratcher with a sacrifice fly to left.

However, Winthrop got the run back in the bottom of the inning, plating another run against Brothers to take a 6-2 lead, the final.

Brothers lasted seven innings, giving up six runs on eight hits while striking out four. He received the loss to drop to 2-4 on the season.

The Bisons tallied just six hits in the game, with Gutierrez and Bratcher accounting for four of them with two each.

The Bisons will return to action tomorrow, May 3, when they take on Winthrop in a double-header, with the first game set to kick off at 2 p.m.
