March 31, 2008

Bisons' right-hander, Brandon McClurg followed up his Atlantic Sun Pitcher of the Week honor, by being named as one of five "Louisville Slugger's" National Players of the Week.

The honor comes after McClurg no-hit the Kennesaw State Owls in the Bisons' 4-0 win on Saturday, March 28. McClurg needed only 113 pitches in the victory as he struck out ten.

"It's a great honor," McClurg said. "Both for me and for Lipscomb baseball, because it was a great team effort. Caleb [Joseph] called a great game, and both Allen [Bolden] and [Brad] Gooch robbed what could have been hits."

Over his last three starts, McClurg has posted an ERA of 0.78. During that span, he has thrown 23 innings, while racking up three wins and 28 strikeouts.

On the season, McClurg is 4-0 with a 1.59 ERA. He has struck out 34 and opponents are batting just .179 against him.

The other four National Players of the Week, include Mount Vernon Nazarene's left-hander, Levi Curry (perfect game over Cedarville), Northern Iowa's Nick Kirk (no-hit Evansville), Texas-San Antonio's Trent Lockwood (4 HR, 8 runs, 13 RBIs, 9 for 19 at the plate), and South Carolina's James Darnell (3 homers in a game against Kentucky).
