March 15, 2008

Final Stats

The Lipscomb Lady Bisons softball team swept an Atlantic Sun doubleheader at Jacksonville Saturday afternoon winning 4-3 in the first game and 4-0 in the nightcap.

In the first game the Lady Bisons spotted Jacksonville a run in the first inning.

Center fielder Lauren Dortwegt led the Lady Bisons at the plate with four hits, all singles, in eight trips.

In game one Dortwegt, shortstop Abby Keese, first baseman Heather Collins and second baseman Megan Rottler all had two hits as the Lady Bisons finished with 10 against a pair of Jacksonville pitchers.

The Lady Bisons scored what proved to be the game-winning run in the top of the seventh. Keese slammed a double to center with one out. Collins singled to center with two outs to drive Keese across the plate.

After giving up the opening run to Jacksonville the Lady Bisons also allowed single runs in the fourth and seventh innings.

In game two right fielder Sara Simons and Dortwegt were the only Lady Bisons with two hits. The Lady Bisons pounded nine hits for the game.

The game was scoreless until the top of the seventh. Left fielder McKenzie Tucker led off the inning for the Lady Bisons with a single to third base. Dortwegt was safe on an error by the second baseman, Simons doubled to center field scoring Tucker and Dortwegt.

Keese rapped a single up the middle to score Simons and advanced to second on the throw. With two outs Rottler singled down the left side to score Keese.

On the mound the Lady Bisons had both pitchers throw complete game victories.

In the opening game Christen Campbell scattered 11 hits and gave up two earned runs. She struck out two and walked one.

Alaina Jacobson held Jacksonville to only four hits in the second game. She did not record a strikeout and did not walk a player.

The Lady Bisons are 11-12 overall, 3-1 in the A-Sun. Jacksonville fell to 13-21 overall, 1-3 in the conference.

The Lady Bisons continue their Florida trip Tuesday when they visit Atlantic Coast Conference power Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla.
