April 7, 2008

Final Stats

Nashville, TN - The Lady Bisons defeated Campbell University 5-4 Monday at Draper Diamond to earn a series sweep over the Fighting Camels and a share of second place in the Atlantic Sun Conference.

After winning game one 3-2, The Lady Bisons started game two of the doubleheader sluggishly with the Camels loading the bases and walking in the first run in the second inning, and picking up one more run off of successive doubles from Camels Karlie Love and Shayla Cullum in the top of the third inning.

The Lady Bisons tied the game in the bottom of the third inning.

The first run came from the lead off batter, sophomore center fielder Lauren Dortwegt, who singled to shortstop, advanced on a sacrifice bunt by senior outfielder Sara Simons, and scored on a single to center field by sophomore designated player/third baseman Kellie Sirus. Dortwegt would finish the game with three hits and Sirus with two.

Senior first baseman Heather Collins singled to center field one batter latter to drive in Sirus.

Campbell picked up two more runs in the top of the sixth inning off a double to left field by the Camel catcher Amanda Littlejohn.

The Lady Bisons would tie the game in the sixth inning when freshman second baseman Megan Rottler, and freshman left fielder MacKenzie Tucker both scored of the same wild pitch.

Lauren Dortwegt scored what would prove to be the winning run off of a wild pitch as well.

The Camels would get two hits in the seventh inning, but could not bring runners across the plate.

Sophomore Christen Campbell earned the win, pitching five innings of relief. She is 8-9 on the season.

The Lady Bisons, now 18-21, and 9-5 in the A-Sun, move on to play defending OVC Champion Tennessee Tech on Tuesday at the Tech Softball Field. Game times is set for 4 p.m.
