Lady Bisons earn pair of shutouts to sweep Kennesaw State

April 11, 2008

Final Stats

The Lady Bisons used clutch pitching to sweep defending Atlantic Sun regular season champion Kennesaw State 4-0 and 4-0 to extend their winning streak to seven games, the longest winning streak for the Lady Bisons in NCAA history.

Senior Kim Jacobson earned the game one shutout striking out seven batters, and sophomore Alaina Jacobson earned the game two shutout, only allowing three hits. It was her third shutout of the season and Lipscomb's fourth.

The game was scoreless through three innings until sophomore right fielder Kellie Sirus tripled to right field to score senior left fielder Sara Simons. Senior first baseman Heather Collins would single through the left side to score Simons.

The Lady Bisons would score two more runs in the seventh inning.

Simons singled up the middle to score sophomore center fielder Lauren Dortwegt, and scored herself two batters later on a dropped fly ball hit by Collins.

The Lady Bisons picked up eight hits in the game including two each from Sara Simons and Kellie Sirus. One of Sirus's hits was a triple.

"We are playing really well right now and we have a lot of confidence," said head coach Kristin Peck. "We are playing hard, we are playing aggressive and we are playing smart. If we continue to do those little things well, we are going to keep winning down the stretch. We are excited to get these two wins, and we hope we continue to play the way are."

The Lady Bisons advance to 22-21 overall and 11-5 in the Atlantic Sun. They travel to Macon Georgia tonight to take on Mercer at 12 p.m. tomorrow.
