Lipscomb softball defeats Mercer to earn series sweep

Final Stats

Sophomore Kellie Sirus drove in four runs to lead the Lady Bisons to a 11-3 triumph over Mercer in five innings Saturday afternoon.

Sirus picked up the first run of the game in the first inning, reaching on a walk and scoring off a throwing error by the Mercer catcher. She then slammed a three run homer over the left field fence in the top of the third to give the Lady Bisons a 4-0 lead.

The Bears scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to make the score 4-2.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Lady Bisons scored seven runs to earn the run rule win.

All together, seven Lady Bisons scored eight hits. Freshman catcher Katie Brokmeyer scored two hits.

Sophomore Alaina Jacobson picked up the game two win. It was her ninth of the season.

"We are excited about the way we are playing right now," said head coach Kristin Peck. "I think our players are approaching each game like they have something to prove and they get more and more motivated with each game. We are playing the kind of ball that we need to play right now and we are very eager."

The Lady Bisons improve to 24-21 on the season and 13-5 in the Atlantic Sun.

Their next game is against cross-town rival Belmont at Aquinas Field Wednesday at 1 p.m.
