Phil Scholz Tosses First Pitch At Orioles Game

April 14, 2008

Baltimore, Md. - Loyola freshman Phil Scholz threw out the first pitch at Camden Yards on Monday night. The Greyhound swimmer, who earned a spot on the United States Paralympics Swim Team earlier this month, threw a one-hop strike before the Baltimore Orioles 4-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Scholz is one of 38 swimmers who will compete at the Paralympic Games in Beijing, China this summer. He earned his spot on the team with a gold-medal performance at the U.S. Paralympic Trials, winning gold in all four of his events.

Scholz, who will also compete in a qualifying meet for more events later this spring, has already been assigned to swim in the 100 Free, 400 Free, 1500 Free and 100 Fly in China.

Scholz and the U.S. Paralympic Swim Team were also honored at a Minnesota Twins game earlier this season.
