Lewsiburg, Pa. - The Loyola women's track team opened competition at the Bison Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa. with a school record in the Distance Medley Relay on Friday night. The Greyhounds, who only ran a handful of athletes on Day One of the two-day meet, shaved more than 20 seconds off the previous Loyola record.
The record-setting relay was kicked off by freshman Lindsay Wilson, who posted a split of 3:50 in the 1200m leg. Freshman teammate Angeline Diamond raced to a time of 63.2 in the 400m leg, and was followed by senior Caroline Scott and her 2:21 split in the 800m. Senior Andrea Rovegno was the anchor, running a 5:04 mile and giving the Greyhounds a relay time of 12:20.99.
"This relay team put forth a great effort," said Head Coach Brett Harvey. "We've taken a full-minute off the school record in less than one year. That's very impressive."
Also running for Loyola on Friday night, senior Bethany Gentry registered a personal best in the 5000m, crossing the finish line in 20:03.
The Greyhounds continue competition at Bucknell on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
