The Andrea Rovegno era ended in style, as the graduate student from Wyckoff, N.J., highlighted the Loyola College indoor track and field season with a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference title and finished second in another event.

Rovegno took the MAAC mile at the New York Armory in 5 minutes, 2.49 seconds. At the same meet, Rovegno placed second in the 3,000 meters, in 10:15.31. Maureen Wynne and Kate Cervo qualified for the final in the same event.

Rovegno's 18 points in those two events went a long way toward Loyola's fifth-place team finish.

Junior Melanie Mitchell set a Loyola record in the shot put at the MAACs, with a toss of 33 feet, 4 inches. Kim Amaducci, the Loyola record-holder in the high jump, finished fifth in the conference with a clearance of 1.50 meters.

Loyola's distance medley foursome finished fourth at the MAACs, and the 4 x 400 relay finished fifth.

A week earlier, in Annapolis, in the final meet at Navy's fabled Halsey Field House, Lindsay Wilson took third in the mile in 5:11.73, the fastest time ever by a Loyola freshman.

Earlier in the season, Rovegno won the 3,000 at a major invitational at Bucknell. At the same meet, junior Brittany McDonald reached the finals in the 55 dash, with a personal best, 7.81.
