April 24, 2008
The University of Louisville men's tennis team placed three players on the All-BIG EAST Tournament Singles team and earned one All-BIG EAST Tournament Doubles team spot. Freshmen Austen Childs and Viktor Maksimcuk and sophomore David Simon were selected to the singles team, while the duo of freshman Simon Childs and sophomore Kenneth Nordheim garnered doubles honors. Award winners were voted on by the league's coaches following the championship's conclusion. Coaches were note allowed to vote for their own student-athletes. "It is pleasing to know that fellow coaches think highly of my team to select five of them to be All-Big East Tournament team," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "All of these players are underclassmen and have a bright future. They are a great foundation to continually build from and with the addition to another recruiting class we should have even more fun next season." Austen Childs, a freshman from Mt. Maunganui, New Zealand, has compiled a 25-13 overall record and is 15-8 as the Cardinals' top-seeded player. Childs has appeared as high as No. 36 in the ITA singles rankings and is currently No. 44.
