Final Stats

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Liz Lovejoy matched a career-high with five goals, while Emily Dashiell added three goals as the Louisville lacrosse team closed the home portion of its inaugural season with a 16-10 win over future BIG EAST foe Cincinnati on Tuesday night at the UofL Lacrosse Stadium.

Lovejoy, a first-year attacker from Greenwich, Conn., scored three straight goals to spark a stretch of eight consecutive goals overall for the Cards (11-4) during a first half rally that essentially put the game out of reach by the 12:26 mark of the first half. Overall, Lovejoy finished with four first half goals and added her fifth midway through the second half to give the Cards their largest lead of the game at 16-5 with 15:46 to play.

The win for the Cards is their fourth straight at home and their fourth straight overall, their longest winning streak of the season. Along with the three goals for Dashiell, the first-year midfielder also added a game-high four ground balls and three caused turnovers for Louisville.

"We got the job done today and it's great to finish our home schedule with another win," said Cards' head coach Kellie Young. "It certainly wasn't the greatest performance we've had this season, but it's a win."

Louisville first-year attacker Bergan Foley, the nation's leading goal scorer entering the week at more than four goals per game, finished Tuesday's game with two goals, while first-year midfielder Brittany Poist caused five turnovers to take her season and national leading average to 3.46 per game. She also added five draw controls and three ground balls.

Cincinnati (2-14) scored the game's final six goals to cut the final margin. The Bearcats, like the Cards, will begin BIG EAST Conference play in 2009, taking the number of conference teams competing in lacrosse to eight.

As a team, the Cards picked up 17 ground balls to only five for the Bearcats, and Louisville controlled 16 of 28 draws on the day. The Cards also forced 17 of Cincinnati's 18 turnovers and were a perfect 10-for-10 on clear attempts.

Up next, the Cards will close the 2008 season against Howard University on Sunday, May 4 at 1 p.m. ET, in Washington, D.C.
