No. 13 Loyola Extends Winning Streak to Four With Sweep of Juniata

CHICAGO - The No. 13 Loyola University Chicago men's volleyball team out-hit Juniata College .301 to .174 en route to a 3-0 victory on Saturday evening at Alumni Gym. The Ramblers extend their winning streak to a season-high four matches as they improve to 10-6 on the season, while the Eagles fall to 6-7 on the year. After trading points numerous times in the early stages of game one, Loyola took the lead, 12-10, on a kill by Nick Lamoureux. The Ramblers would not surrender their lead as they pulled out a 30-26 victory. Game two was close early on, but the Ramblers broke it open on back-to-back kills by Mike Hutz and Ian Anderson to take a 10-8 advantage. Loyola never looked back as it eventually sealed game two, 30-23, on a Joe Guntli kill. The third game was close throughout, as the score was tied a dozen times and the two teams exchanged leads twice. With the score knotted at 29 apiece, the Ramblers took advantage of two consecutive Juniata attack errors giving Loyola a 31-29 win. Anderson led the Ramblers with 14 kills and eight digs while Guntli contributed 11 kills while hitting .455 on the evening. Hutz recorded 38 assists, three digs and a trio of aces for the Ramblers. Loyola returns to action on Wednesday, March 5 when they go head-to-head with Hawai'i in Honolulu. First serve is set for 11:00 p.m. Central. |
