VanBogaert Named U.S. Army Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Week

Feb. 19, 2008

CHICAGO - Loyola University Chicago sophomore Elyse VanBogaert has been selected as the U.S. Army Horizon League Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week, it was announced today by the League office. VanBogaert was joined by Butler's A.J. Graves as Scholar-Athlete of the Week. This marks the second straight week that a Loyola student-athlete has earned the award.

Over the weekend, VanBogaert recorded a double-double, her second in as many games, with 10 points and 10 rebounds to help the Ramblers defeat cross-town rival UIC, 63-57. The Elburn, Ill., native has averaged 11.4 points per game and ranks seventh in the Horizon League in field-goal percentage (.518) this season.

VanBogaert also excels in the classroom as she was a member of the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll last fall and owns a 3.65 grade-point average. She is undecided on her major.

To be eligible for U.S. Army Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better on a 4.00 scale, have completed at least one year at a member institution and passed 24 semester hours and perform well during the week's competition. Winners are selected by a group of League faculty athletic representative.

The Ramblers host Milwaukee on Thursday, February 21 at the Gentile Center. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
