Box Score

LAS VEGAS - Arizona State (1-0) used a five-run fifth inning to break the game open en route to an 8-0 victory over Loyola University Chicago (2-2) this afternoon at the Sportco Spring Kick-Off Classic. The No. 2/3 Sun Devils recorded 10 hits on the afternoon as the Ramblers fell to a nationally ranked team for the second time in as many days.

A national-title contender, Arizona State got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Kristen Donnenwirth doubled home Jessica Mapes, then added another run in the second. Katie Crabb, who went 3 for 3 on the day, led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run to give the Sun Devils a 3-0 lead and ASU used a five-run fifth inning, highlighted by a bases-clearing double by Kaitlin Cochran, to seal the victory.

Loyola wasn't without scoring threats against Arizona State however, as it stranded a runner on second base in the top of the third inning, and although Kat Krause laced a one-out double in the fourth, she was unable to score.

The Ramblers wrap up play at the Sportco Spring Kick-off Classic tomorrow when they have a rematch with Arizona State at 11 a.m. Pacific.
