Ellen Kresl notched three hits against Oregon State

Loyola Falls To Oregon State

March 1, 2008

Box Score

FULLERTON, Calif. - Just hours after a four-hit game, Loyola University Chicago sophomore outfielder Ellen Kresl went 3 for 3 at the plate, but it wasn't enough as the Ramblers (2-5) dropped a 12-4 decision in six innings to Oregon State this afternoon in their first day of play at the Worth Invitational. Kresl recorded seven hits in Loyola's two contests today.

The Ramblers staked claim to an early 3-0 lead as Kresl would come around to score on Kat Krause's RBI double in the bottom of the first inning. Loyola added two more runs in the third as Kresl scored on a passed ball and Angie Funston plated Krause with a run-scoring double to put the Maroon and Gold on top, 3-0.

Oregon State battled back to take the lead by pushing across four runs in the top of the fourth inning, but Loyola showed its mettle by clawing back to even the score in the bottom of the fifth when Kresl scored on an error. However, the Beavers put the game out of reach in the sixth inning, scoring eight runs to break open the contest.

Kresl scored three runs and stole three bases in addition to recording three hits, while Funston and Krause each tallied a hit and a RBI.

Loyola continues play at the Worth Invitational tomorrow when it meets Purdue and Pacific.
