Crosson's Solid Pitching Not Enough In Loss To Pacific
March 2, 2008 FULLERTON, Calif. - Krista Crosson tossed six innings of work and allowed only two earned runs, but for the second straight game, Loyola University Chicago (2-7) was done in by defensive lapses in a 6-0 loss to Pacific at the Worth Invitational this afternoon. Crosson struck out three in a complete-game effort. Loyola let a key scoring opportunity slip away in the top of the first inning as its stranded runners on second and third and the Tigers wasted no time denting the scoreboard as Kellee Wilson drove in a run in the bottom of the first courtesy of a sacrifice fly. Wilson smacked a run-scoring double in the third to extend Pacific's lead to 2-0, but Loyola mounted a threat, putting two runners on in the fourth, but again, was unable to come up with a timely hit. Pacific broke the game open with a three-run fifth inning, highlighted by Alyce Jorgensen's two-run homer to center field, and the Tigers added another run in the sixth to provide the final margin of victory. Loyola was unable to solve Pacific pitcher Chelsea Engle, who scattered five hits and struck out seven en route to the win. Ellen Kresl went 3 for 4 to lead Loyola's offense, which also received hits from Kaycee Tharp and Nora Schober. Loyola returns to action on Tuesday, March 4, when it plays a doubleheader at Loyola Marymount. |
