Loyola Takes Game One From Loyola Marymount
March 4, 2008 LOS ANGELES - Nora Schober and Angie Funston each drove in three runs to help Loyola University Chicago (3-7) to a 6-3 victory over Loyola Marymount in game one of a doubleheader this afternoon. With the win, the Ramblers put an end to a six-game losing skid and picked up their first win on their current spring trip to California. The Ramblers wasted no time getting on the board, scoring three runs in the first inning with two outs. Kat Krause's two-out double started the rally and was followed by walks to Funston and Kaycee Tharp. Schober then roped a bases-clearing triple to right field to put the Ramblers on top, 3-0. Loyola Marymount answered with a run in its half of the first and the game remained 3-1 until the fifth inning when the Ramblers pushed three more runs across, courtesy of a three-run double by Funston. The host Lions cut into Loyola's lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, but Amy Solava came on in relief to slam the door on LMU's comeback hopes in the final two innings. Junior right-hander Krista Crosson picked up her first win of the season, going 5.0 innings and allowing only two earned runs. Schober finished the day 2 for 3 with three RBI, while Funston went 1 for 3 with three RBI and a pair of stolen bases. The two teams play game two of the twin bill this afternoon. |
