Loyola Settles For Doubleheader Split After 8-0 Loss In Nightcap
March 4, 2008 Los Angeles, Calif. - After turning five hits and three walks into six runs in the opener, Loyola failed to scratch in the nightcap, producing only two hits in an 8-0 (5 innings) loss to Loyola Marymount this afternoon in Los Angeles, Calif. Loyola drops to 3-8 on the season while Loyola Marymount improves to 12-8. The host Lions got on the board in the bottom of the third inning on a two-out, two-run single by Chelsie Tysdal. Loyola looked to answer in the top of the fourth. Lindsay O'Gean opened with a base hit up the middle, the Ramblers' first hit of the game, but was caught trying to steal second base. That proved to be a big play in the inning as Kat Krause followed with a double to left-center field. Nora Schober drew a walk two batters later, giving LU runners at first and second with two outs, before Katie Duffy struck out to end the threat. Marymount added another run in the bottom of the inning without hitting the ball out of the infield, turning two infield singles, a stolen base and a wild pitch into a run to make it 3-0, and closed it out in the bottom of the fifth, sending nine people to the plate and scoring five runs to secure the 8-0 win. The hits from O'Gean and Krause were the only two knocks for the Ramblers in game two. Amy Solava (2-5) took the loss in the circle, giving up eight runs - seven earned - in 4.1 innings. Loyola returns to action tomorrow night when they travel south on I-5 to take on San Diego State. First pitch is scheduled for 9 p.m. CT. |
