Loyola Falls to No. 20 DePaul, 7-2

April 15, 2008

Box Score

CHICAGO - Loyola University Chicago dropped a 7-2 decision to DePaul on a sunny Tuesday afternoon at Loyola Softball Park. With the loss the Ramblers slip to 11-16 on the season as the Blue Demons improve to 29-12, extending their winning streak to seven-games.

The Blue Demons got on the board first as Marcy Wilus singled home Amber Patton, who led off the game with a walk. The visitors extended their lead to three (3-0) when Lauren Frankiewicz roped a two-RBI double to left field. The Ramblers struck in the bottom-half of the first, as Nora Schober belted a two-run home run to straight-away centerfield to cut the Blue Demons' lead to one (3-2).

DePaul added another run in the third when Sean Plese singled home Katie Hanson. The Blue Demons would break the game open in the fourth inning. After a Rambler fielding error gave Marie Thompson first base. A walk to Wilus put runners at first and second for Frankiewicz. The designated player cranked her second two-RBI double of the game to give DePaul a comfortable 6-2 lead. The Blue Demons tacked on their final run of the game in the fifth inning when Patton's single to left plated Plese giving DePaul a 7-2 advantage.

Krista Crosson (3-8) suffered the loss as she pitched three innings and gave up four runs (all earned) on five hits. Schober led the Ramblers offensively as she finished the evening 1-for-3 with a homer, one run scored and two RBI.

Becca Heteniak (15-5) was magnificent in the circle for DePaul. She pitched six innings, allowed two earned runs and struck out 12 batters without issuing a walk. Heteniak fanned an impressive eight consecutive batters to keep Loyola from mounting a comeback.

The Ramblers look to get back on the winning track when they host conference and city-rival UIC in a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 16. The first game is scheduled for 4 p.m.
